Info Post
Every NBA team needs "that guy". The unglamorous three-point maven who doesn't know what it feels like to miss from the charity stripe or beyond. Most teams think they have one (even Pat Riley was fooled by Mike Miller) but in reality, if they don't have JJ Redick, they have room for improvement. Redick's college career speaks for itself so I will skip to his wildly underrated presence in the NBA. Redick's career shooting percentages are stellar but what really impresses me is that he has improved on his totals every year since his sophomore campaign. His career averages are over 40% from the floor and long distance and a clip near 90% from the line. With the game's best center and an attacking point guard in Jameer Nelson, the Magic have only needed Redick to shoot the lights out of the gym and take game-icing free throws. Still, Redick with his clearly undersized frame (albeit he has legendary hair) has averaged in the ballpark of 10 ppg three times and is on pace to set career highs across the board this year. His movement without the ball is constantly improving and his shooting is, in one word, filthy; especially with the game on the line. This year, without Dwight Howard putting the team on his back (although more likely his shoulders), everyone on the Magic is seeing more touches and is getting the chance to prove their star potential. Redick, however, is not a player who needs plays run for him or pick and rolls to set him up... he is just a damn good shooter, making him the Magic's most frustrating player for opposing coaches, players and fans. Frankly, I don't want to see Redick's role change too much with the absence of Dwight, I just want to see him do what he does best: drain from long range.
Seriously, do you see the hair?
