Most likely Plaxico is not the answer for the Steelers. Yes, he has been an effective playmaker throughout his career for the Steelers, Giants and Jets, but his playmaking abilities began to notably fade during his time with the Jets. Why did the Steelers decide to bring in an old, injury prone and polarizing player in Burress at a time when the team is beginning to fall apart? This type of impatient and spontaneous signing seems like something that the Jets would do, akin to their signing of Tim Tebow, LT and Plaxico himself a year ago (signings that were as much for media attention as they were for football). The Steelers may be shooting themselves in the leg by brining such a polarizing figure into their locker room at such a crucial turning point in their season.
Although all the signs point to Burress flopping and proving to be just a desperate move by the Steelers front office, maybe he is worth the gamble. In 2011, when Burress was last in the league, he caught eight touchdowns and proved to be an asset in the red-zone. Although this may just be a romantic move by a front office hoping to get their season back on track, Plaxico may be able to add necessary depth to a depleted group of Steelers' receivers.
An undeniable talent when in football shape
