1. LeBron James: James may be the most versatile and unstoppable athlete in the world right now. At 6 feet 8 inches LeBron somehow remains quick and lightning fast. Although LeBron is seemingly built to play the game of basketball, how might he fair in a different sports arena. During the NBA lockout there were rumors (all fake sadly) that LeBron and a few other NBA players were thinking about the NFL. James, donning a shiny helmet and shoulder pads (perhaps even a New York Giants Helmet), and walking away from the hardwood for the turf would be a site to behold. James, who was a First-Team All-State wide out at his high school in Cleveland, could play a variety of positions in the NFL: Wide Receiver, Tight End, Running Back, O-Lineman and maybe even QB (If Tim Tebow could lead the broncos to the playoffs, there is no reason why Lebron, most likely an equally inadequate passer, could not do the same). Perhaps the most intriguing position for James is Line Backer. Not only would he be able to shoot the gaps against the run with his school-bus size frame, but he would also be able to keep up with many of the NFL’s elite TEs who have been terrorizing opposing LB’s for a few years. As Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots piled up 17 receiving touchdowns last season (an NFL record for tight ends) it became evident that a freakishly athletic TE is nearly unstoppable in the NFL. Gronk was too fast for linebackers and too big for the defensive backs who had the speed to keep up with him. This is where Lebron comes in; he possesses the size and speed to keep up with Gronkowki and other elite tight ends like Jimmy Graham. Imagine LeBron James lining up opposite Gronkowski on Sunday afternoons.
The only unrealistic thing about this video is Cleveland allowing James back into their heart.
2. Mike Trout: Many people may not believe that the skills required to succeed in the MLB necessarily translate to the NFL; however, Mike Trout, the MLB’s surprise rookie last year, is blessed with the proper traits that would allow him to excel in the NFL. Standing at 6-1 and 210 lbs., Trout still manages to posses a freakish speed. Trout posses the unique blend of strength and athleticism. In his rookie campaign, Trout became the youngest player in MLB history to ever hit at least 20 home runs and steal at least 40 bases in a season. Already touted as one of the best center fielders in the league, Trout would thrive in the NFL as a free safety. With his natural instinct for breaking towards the ball and his freakish speed, athleticism and strength, Trout has the makings of a premier NFL safety.
He would make picking off Tony Romo look even easier than it already is.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo: Imagine Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the pitch and stepping onto the field; leaving behind “football” for Football. At the end of his career when the wear and tear of a 90 minute soccer match proves to be too much for his body, why wouldn’t he want to come live in America and make $4-6 million a year as an NFL place kicker. I’m sure “coaches” like Rex Ryan and owner’s like Jerry Jones would jump at the opportunity to sign Ronaldo (and further prove that their teams should not be taken seriously around the league). Ronaldo has unearthly control over a soccer ball from long range… why not see if his abilities apply to a pig skin?
4. Chris Pronger: Chris Pronger, the 38 year old NHL hockey player, currently is one of the marquee defensemen for the Philadelphia Flyers. He is 6-6 and 220 lbs. I could rattle off a list of several reasons why Pronger would be a dominant linebacker in the NFL, but I think this video of Pronger laying down a monster hit on Dan Clearly transcends words:
Pronger looks like a mix between Ivan Drago and Brian Urlacher:
Honorable Mention:
Rajon Rondo as a Wide Receiver would tear up the NFL:
Patrick Ewing as a Defensive Tackle in the NFL:
Imagine lining up as a center against this monster.
Walt Frazier as a Monday Night Football announcer teamed up with John Gruden:
