The Spike Lee Jersey Honor
Info Post
Tonight is finally the night. Spike Lee made his Knicks debut last weekend and now has seen enough games to pick his "favorite" Knick and wear their jersey for the remainder of the season. Last season we saw Spike get swept up in Linsanity and dawn a Harvard jersey and during the previous season he showed his love for Landry Fields. Who will get the nod this year? The Knicks Tape is full of new faces but here are the leading candidates for "The Spike Award."
The Leading Candidates
Jason Kidd: Nobody has had a greater impact on the New York Knicks this season than Jason Kidd. The player-coach has hit big shot after big shot and has made countless smart plays over the course of the season. Kidd is making Glen Grunwald look like a genius and is playing as if he is 25 years old again. Spike has been seen on the floor at the last few Knicks home games getting exceedingly hyped up after Kidd does anything worthy of merit. Don't be shocked if we see Mr. Lee repping the number 5.
JR Smith: What could possibly make JR Smith feel better about himself than running down the court and seeing the most recognizable Knicks fan on the planet wearing his number 8? Nothing. JR is the classic player who loves to swag walk and slap his chest while pointing at the crowd. Imagine JR hitting a clutch three pointer and then bumping chests with Spike. JR is a very strong candidate for this honor.
Tyson Chandler: I personally would tell Spike to wear Tyson's jersey. Chandler is easily the Knicks' most consistent player and often times has the most exciting plays in the games because of all his dunks and offensive rebounds/tip outs. Spike loves to argue foul calls with the refs just like Tyson does and he is very vocal, just as Tyson is. There is also that ironic height difference between them that would make photos and high fives very funny to watch.
Dark Horse Candidates
Raymond Felton: This has been quite the rebound year for Felton after a disappointing season in Portland. Lee has a thing for point guards and would surely love to wear the number 2 on his back for the duration of this season.
Amar'e Stoudemire: It seems like just yesterday that Amar'e was putting up MVP numbers in his first season with the Knicks. Oh how times change. But there is no doubt that when Amar'e comes back he will make an impact. Perhaps all he needs to change him back to his old ways his Spike supporting him from the front row.
